Community-led Plan: latest update

Ireby & Uldale Community-led Plan: a Pie and Peas Supper Event

On November 8th a "Pie and Peas" evening was hosted by the Community-led Plan Steering Group in the Globe Hall, Ireby. Open to all, and free of charge, the event was attended by some seventy members of the community, reflecting a real interest in and engagement with the idea of a plan.

After introductory slides and a presentation from ACTion with Communities in Cumbria, the audience enjoyed a short film highlighting some areas of work of the Northern Fells Group. Food was then served by members of the Steering Group and other helpers, with plenty of opportunities to chat.

There followed a presentation outlining how a CLP can identify needs and requirements within Ireby & Uldale and the surrounding area and positively influence decisions that affect all as the community changes and evolves. A key message was that the process of creating a CLP can change ways of thinking from "We used to..." to “In the future we would like to...”.

The final presentation addressed “How can I help?”, and it was explained how important it is that there be people involved from across the whole community, from all areas, age ranges and interests, including businesses, farmers, holiday homeowners.

At the summing-up, the audience was encouraged to talk with friends and neighbours, to let the Steering Group know views and opinions, needs and desires. This is the essential aspect of a Community-led Plan, that it be determined by the community. The Steering Group would welcome new members and different working groups might work on different issues, so there are many opportunities to get involved.

A questionnaire will be devised and issued in the New Year. All are strongly encouraged to respond.
